The Société de Transport de Montreal (STM) bus fleet consists of 1690 buses. The Montreal Transit Commission chose to retire all of the "Classic" model bus, regardless of their condition, when they reached 16 years of service. One bus in particular has been spared, and is now turning heads to travelers who have never seen such a bus.

The Board of Directors of the Société de transport de Montreal (STM) has approved a contract to DesignLine USA to acquire seven fully electric low-floor midibuses (35ft buses) . Worth a total of $ 5.9 million, all taxes included, this contract is awarded after an international public tender launched last fall. The AMT recently completed their own study, and came to the conclusion that they are the best at what they do, when comparing themselves to on-time departures with North America's largest commuter train services. Elegant interiors, more headroom, larger doors and windows. Sound like a bus you'd like to ride on? If a deal with a Winnipeg based bus manufacturer, New Flyer, is made, then it might not be all that far fetched. Over the last two decades, Montreal has purchased their buses from Novabus Corp, a St-Eustache bus manufacturer, who has held a virtual monopoly in the transit industry, in Quebec at least. With enticing offers made by the government to purchase locally, and no other options available, it was a no-brainer to continue purchasing from this one company.
